Queen's Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2002

golden jubilee fireworksPyrovision was very honoured to be asked to design and fire all fireworks and stage effects for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in central London.

The first of the two concerts 'Prom at the Palace', which had a classical theme, included a small scale fireworks display to Handel's Fireworks music. The second concert 'Party at the Palace' saw a spectacular opening with Brain May playing the national anthem on Buckingham Palace roof with stage mines going off all around him. Ricky Martin started the extravaganza. This was followed with S-Club and a waterfall effect in the background. It was mammoth effort for our stage team not only to design and fire the effects but also to deal with the artists managers.

After the concert the Queen was driven down to a podium 150 metres down the Mall to press the button that ignited a unique comet rocket that travelled down the mall on a wire at 100 mph to set off the last of the jubilee beacons and a dazzling fireworks display. The bigger calibre fireworks were set off in Green Park, whereas Buckingham Palace had lots of specifically designed fireworks and effects going off on the roof and in front of the Palace, including a stunning waterfall and six 30ft Catherine wheels.

The response from the public has been overwhelming and we are still trying to reply to every e-mail, letter, phone call that we had to congratulate us on what must have been one of Pyrovision's finest hours.
